Cathy Van Doornum
Coach Van Doornum was named
the 2010 California Coaches Association Field Hockey Coach of the Year. She has coached the Huntington Beach field hockey team since
2005 when she was the JV coach and since 2006 as the varsity coach.
She has built the program into a perennial
power by winning the CIF Championship in 2007, CIF Finalist in 2008, 2009, and 2010 and four consecutive Sunset
League Championships in 2007 - 2010. She also coached the Newport Harbor varsity team from 1984 to 1989.
In college she played on the 1980 CSULB National Championship team and played for CSULB in
1980-81 and Purdue University in 1982-83 where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance. She was also
part of the Olympic Development Program in 1981-83. She is a graduate of Edison High School where she was Sunset League Player
of the Year and on the All-CIF team.
Coach Masters has coached
the Huntington Beach JV field hockey team since 2005 while helping Coach Van Doornum build the Huntington Beach program to its current
stature. She played at Huntington Beach High School and was on the All-League
First Team. She played for Golden West College, 1981Conference Champions and at Southwest Missouri State for
Hall of Fame coach Dr. Rhonda Ridinger.
She earned her BS degree in Dietetics from Missouri State and is a Registered Dietitian and a Fitness Instructor at
Coastline Community College.
