CIF Finals: HBHS 0 Newport 2
The Oilers
lost a heartbreaker in the finals against rival Newport. A very motivated and aggresive Newport jumped to a 2 goal lead
in the first half. The Oilers re-grouped for the second half and kept the ball in the attacking half. They earned 8
second half corners but were unable to convert any of them.

CIF Playoffs Semi-Final: HBHS 2 Harvard Westlake 0
HBHS
surged into the LAFHA, aka CIF, Championship Finals for the fifth consecutive year. They controlled the visiting Wolverines
with tenacious defense and a powerful counter attack. The defensive backline of Marina Elmore, Faith Hicks, Kayal
Winsatt and sweeper Niccole Anzivino had several critical stops and limited Harvard Westlake's trips into the circle.
On the one occassion that the Wolverines did get through, keeper Brittney Cristini made a criical save on a shot
drilled from 5 yards.
The Oilers pushed the play up the sidelines through outside halfbacks Letty Guerrero,
Kirsti Stangeland, and Allie Knobbe allowing center backs Abbey Masters and Lindsey Walter space for touch passes on
the counter. The Oilers first goal came on a counter with forward Kayla Wigney finishing a reverse stick from
6 yards out. Their second goal started when Walter rushed and stole a Harvard short corner attempt and quickly
ended when forward Hannah Rodriguez found Stangeland on the far post for the insurance goal.
The Oilers
meet rival Newport Harbor in the CIF Finals for the fifth consective year. The game will be played at a neutral site,
the Edison Turf Field. Game time is 3:00 pm, November 3.

CIF Playoffs Round 1: HBHS 8 Bonita 0
The Oilers dominated
visting Bonita to open the CIF Playoffs. Letty Guerrero, Kayla Wigney, Hannah Rodriguez, Kirsti Stangland, Tori Wickham, and Abby
Masters all scored. The HBHS defense lead by Marina Elmore and Kayla Winsatt keep Bonita bottled up all game.
Lindsey Walter assisted on four of the goals. Come out and watch as they compete in CIF 2nd round play on Wednesday
against Harvard Westlake on Nov.2 at 6:00pm in our Stadium!

HBHS 5 Fountain Valley 0
HBHS shut out Fountain Valley
at Cap Shue Stadium to complete league undefeated and capture the Sunset League crown for the 5th consective year.

HBHS 3 Westminster 2
The Oilers survived at very tough match at Westminster, prevailing 3 -2 for the win. Kayla Wigney
opened the scoring early with a goal on a break-away in the first 2 minutes of the match but the Westminster defense
stiffened to shut out the Oilers for the rest of the first half. The Lions tied the score at 1 -1 just before halftime.
Lindsey Walter converted on a penalty stroke and Hannah Rodriguez scored off the near post to give the Oilers a 3-1 lead in
the second half. The Lions, however, were persistent and successful at hitting the long ball which finally lead
to their second score of the game. The HBHS defense picked and was able to shut down the Lions and secure the win.

HBHS 3 Edison 0
Letty Guerreo slammed in beautiful reverse stick in front of the cage to give the Oilers a two goal lead late in
the first half. Kayla Wigney scored the first and last goals for HBHS as they defeated the host Chargers 3 - 0.

HBHS 2 Newport
Harbor 0
Kayla Wigney scored two highlight goals to lead the Oilers over the Sailors at Cap Shue Stadium.
In an intense and fast paced match between the two Sunset League powerhouses, Newport appeared to control the first half
and Huntington did control the second. After the first half, which ended in a scoreless tie, the Oilers came out
with renewed energy and began to force the play with a quick passing game to the delight of the large and loud HBHS crowd.
Wigney got her first goal after a spectacular run down the middle, beating three defenders and scoring with a reverse
stick from 10 yards out. Lindsey Walter set up the insurance goal by weaving through the midfield and giving Wigney
a perfect pass down the right side. Wigney collected the ball and dashed across the face of the cage hitting a solid
reverse stick for the goal. The Oiler defense lead by Kayla Winsatt and Marina Elmore chalked up their fourth consecutive
Sunset League shutout.
JV standout and speedster Amanda Mattes was bumped up to varsity for the game and played
very well as a reserve forward.

HBHS 1 Marina 0
The Oilers found themselves in a defensive struggle on Marina's home
field. Much of the match was played with the Oilers on the attack but the Viking's defense and their keeper denied
multiple short corners and all but one shot. Hannah Rodriguez scored the only and winning goal by using her
quickness to beat the Marina keeper from two yards out.

HBHS 6 Fountain Valley 0
HBHS remained undefeated in Sunset League play with a
6-0 win over host Fountain Valley. Kayla Wigney scored two goals including the first goal in the game with beautiful
reverse stick shot into the upper corner of the box. Nicole Minnicucci slapped in a goal on the corner and Kirsti Stangeland
scored on nice tap in off a Marina Elmore assist. Lindsey Walter and Abby Masters each scored a goal to round out the
scoring.

OC Tournament
The Oilers won their first two games against Bonita and Glendora to advance to
the finals where for the 5th year in a row they faced Newport Harbor. The final ended in a 0-0 tie and Newport prevailed
3-2 on strokes.

HBHS 7 Westminster 0
HBHS started our fast with two early goals as they cruised to a 7 - 0 victory over the visiting Lions.
Abby Masters and Lindsey Walter both scored two goals and Kristi Stangeland, Hannah Rodriguez, and Kayla Wigney each added
a goal. Wigney was also credited with three assists.

HBHS 3 Edison 1
The Oilers got two
goals from Kayla Wigney, the first after Wigney had beaten two Chargers off the dribble to penetrate the circle for the shot
and the second on an assist from Abby Masters. Hanah Rodriguez tipped in a hard shot from Lindsey Walter for the Oilers
third goal. Edison scored a goal late in the first half which is only the second goal HBHS has allowed all season.

HBHS 2 Newport Harbor 0
Huntington Beach improved their Sunset League record to 2 -
0 and their overall recored to 15 - 0 with a victory at Newport Harbor. The Oilers downed the Sailors 2 - 0 with both
goals coming after short corners earned by Lindsey Walter. Hannah Rodriguez fired a shot to the post that was finished
by Abby Masters for the first goal and Kayla Wigney finshed a short corner attack to secure the win. Game

Huntington Beach opened up Sunset League play with a 3 - 0 victory
over Marina at Cap Shue Stadium. The Oilers got two goals from Kayla Wigney and one goal from Marina Elmore.
